| Burnout Paradise - Speed Cars |
Burnout Paradise is by no means a new game, it also seems to be a random game to post about. A rather action-packed racing game it is, but what makes a racing game without it's cars but something other than a racing game? There are dozens of car comparisons to make in the game, but an important aspect is the status that each car represents.
I compare the three different car classes that you choose from and relate them to yet another older game, though much older, Street Fighter Alpha 3. SFA 3 and BP both add nostalgia in their gameplay, but both games allow you to choose which car, or fighting style, best suits you. I'll be making a lot of comparisons to SFA 3.
I'll be brief...
The X-ISM of Burnout Paradise is arguably the Speed cars. Just as the X-ISM fighting style in SFA3 resembles Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo, the Speed car resembles the older Burnout game (1st and Point of Impact). The boost bar is the shortest out of all the racing styles in-game. Adding to the fact that the bar starts off empty, only being able to boost with the bar being completely full, and you'll have a racing style that's a bit hard to master. However, with all of these handicaps, there's one huge advantage towards the Speed style. Burnout Chains.
A Burnout Chain happens when you boost in Speed style and as you are boosting, you take actions that would otherwise fill up your boost bar (Such as Ongoing traffic, near misses, etc). When you finish draining out your boost bar, the residue of your boost will fill up the boost bar depending on how much you were driving recklessly. If you fully filled back up your boost bar, you'll initiate a Burnout. When this happens again, a Burnout Chain x2 will initiate. Technically, this could go on as long as you don't let of the boost button, crash, or fill up the boost bar in time.
This is related to X-ISM because of it's simplistic, yet skillful approach to an evolved system. |
